About
The world’s first honeybee disaster team
We are the first fully operational US honeybee disaster response and recovery team!
A 501(c)(3) founded in the middle of 2024 by Patrick Hardy, a California Master Beekeeper and disaster expert, Bee Platoon is the first all-volunteer disaster response team that assists beekeepers, first responders, and the public when dealing with honeybee swarms, evacuating or sheltering bees and transporting them to safe locations in preparation for a disaster. We also assist apiaries in their disaster recovery by helping find resources and support to get their pollinators back to what they do best!
Patrick’s Challenge
Design and Launch the World’s First Honeybee Disaster Response Team in 90 Days!
Patrick, founder and CEO of the largest small business disaster management company in the US, author of a revolutionary book on disasters, an internationally-award winning keynote speaker, and a 20-year decorated disaster professional decided to take on a unique challenge: to design and launch the world’s first honeybee disaster response team…in just 90 days!
From May of 2024 to August of 2024, he completed all the paperwork to become an official California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, he wrote all the emergency plans, designed the first honeybee disaster training, registered the team in 12 emergency management agencies, ran the first emergency drill with honeybees, finalized the equipment and supplies, and in August of 2024, the team got activated for its first wildfire in Riverside, California.
Now, Patrick is challenging you!

Our Commitment and Values
Bee Platoon is committed to providing expert service to the public, first responders, and emergency management agencies with the highest level of volunteer professionalism. We are committed to ecological sustainability through our pollinator friends, recognizing that the elimination of the honeybee would be an ecological disaster unlike any other encountered by humanity. Each of our volunteers has been trained through a combination of digital as well as in-person learning grounded in ethics from safety and risk management when dealing with entomological subjects. Our curriculum modules are constantly improving based upon not only best practices in the literature, but also from field experiences and deployments in real disasters. Our final grounding philosophy is this: we seek excellence every day in our preparedness, response, and recovery to any disaster.
Welcome to Bee Platoon!
I want to welcome you to Bee Platoon!
As a 20+ year disaster professional as well as a California Master Beekeeper, I recognized the need to assist beekeepers, first responders, and the public during a natural, technological, or security disaster, so I designed and launched Bee Platoon, which is the first national emergency honeybee response team. We want to work not only to help people respond to these disasters, but also assist in recovery and prepare for the next one. I have a determination to innovate and act as a cutting-edge response organization melding the best management technologies of disaster management and professional beekeeping.
My mission is to create a team of elite honeybee disaster responders who can deploy to any disaster, anywhere in the United States.
Volunteer with us and become part of our story!
